Make pictures smaller for the web and email
This image compressor shrinks JPG, PNG and WebP files without changing their dimensions. JPG and WebP pictures are saved again at a lower quality setting. PNG pictures have their colours reduced to a compact palette, the approach dedicated PNG optimisers use, and keep their transparency. Choose Light, Balanced or Strong, and compress many images at once. If a picture cannot be made smaller, you get the original back. Your photos are processed in your browser and never uploaded.
Good to know
Answers to common questions about Compress image.
How much smaller will my images get?
It depends on the picture. Photos straight from a camera and screenshots saved as PNG usually shrink a great deal at the Balanced level; pictures that were already compressed gain less.
Will the pictures look worse?
Light is hard to tell apart from the original. Balanced is fine for websites and email. Strong gives the smallest files and may show slight blur or banding when you zoom in.
Is the size in pixels changed?
No. Width and height stay the same. Use Resize image if you also want fewer pixels.
Are location and camera details kept?
No. Compressed files are saved without the hidden camera data (EXIF), such as where a photo was taken. A file that could not be made smaller is returned unchanged.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. Compress image runs inside your browser tab and your file never leaves your device. Close the tab and nothing remains.
