Turn scanned pages into searchable text
OCR (optical character recognition) reads the text in a scanned PDF and adds it as an invisible layer behind each page image. The document looks the same, but you can now search it, select words and copy them. Choose from 26 languages, add a second language for mixed documents, and optionally save the recognized text as a .txt file. Recognition runs in your browser, so scans of contracts or IDs stay private.
Good to know
Answers to common questions about OCR PDF.
Does the PDF look different afterwards?
No. Your pages are kept exactly as they are. An invisible text layer is added on top so the words can be found and selected.
How accurate is it?
Clean, straight scans at 200 dpi or more work best. Handwriting, low-resolution photos and decorative fonts are recognized less reliably.
Is the recognition done online?
No. The recognition engine runs in your browser. The first run loads the language data, so it takes a little longer.
What if a page is sideways or upside down?
Text is only recognized on pages that are the right way up. Turn them with Rotate PDF first, then run OCR.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. OCR PDF runs inside your browser tab and your file never leaves your device. Close the tab and nothing remains.
