Prepare a PDF for long-term archiving
PDF/A is the version of PDF made for archives: everything needed to display the document is stored inside the file. This converter adds the required colour profile and metadata, removes features the standard does not allow, and tells you what it changed. If the original uses fonts that are not embedded, the report says so, and you can flatten the pages to images to produce a compliant file.
Good to know
Answers to common questions about PDF to PDF/A.
What does the conversion change?
It adds the archive metadata and color profile PDF/A requires and removes what the standard forbids, such as scripts, encryption and embedded files.
Is the result guaranteed to pass validation?
Not always. Some problems, such as fonts that were never embedded in the original, cannot be fixed without changing how the page is stored. The report lists anything left. "Flatten pages to images" produces a file without those problems, at the cost of selectable text.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. PDF to PDF/A runs inside your browser tab and your file never leaves your device. Close the tab and nothing remains.
